Getting ready for the bake!
Getting ready for the bake!

Hello, gentIe readers. Fall is absolutely my favorite time of year. It's still pretty hot here in the midwest, but even so, it's starting to feel like Fall to me. I love everything pumpkin in the Fall or just about anytime! Pumpkin anything is a favorite of my youngest granddaughter, no matter the season. This sourdough pumpkin loaf recipe is a great one using your sourdough discard. It's easy, uses canned pumpkin puree and a mix of granulated and brown sugar and of course your handy discard. I like that it uses pumpkin pie spice instead of a mix of spices. Of course you can make this recipe your own by adding nuts or chocolate chips. I made small loaves this time, it makes it easier to share with friends and family and still keep a loaf for yourself 😉. You can also make a standard bread pan loaf or muffins. Just be sure you adjust your baking times. 50-60 minutes for a standard loaf, 35-45 minutes for a smaller loaf and about 30 minutes for muffins. You can find this recipe in my recipe tab or check out my source https://www.farmhouseonboone.com/sourdough-pumpkin-bread/

I'm going to share a non-sourdough recipe today too. I just made these apple pie bars https://cooking.nytimes.com/recipes/1019543-apple-pie-bars yesterday as part of our "game day" meal. I decided it was time for chili and corn bread muffins (yum) https://www.pantrymama.com/sourdough-cornbread-muffins/and thought an apple dessert would be tasty. These apple pie bars are great to take to pot luck meals or for a family dinner.

These bars do take a little more time than, say an apple crisp (another fall favorite in our family), but I knew that it would be great to freeze the leftovers for another day. I'm going to research some additional apple recipes that use sourdough and when I find some yummy ones I will add to my recipe file for you to try!

A new addition to my sourdough site is a video tab. I received assistance from both my grandson and granddaughter (not to mention the filming assistance from my husband) to get this section started. I had feedback from several sourdough friends that videos might be helpful. So a couple of months ago we began "filming". My granddaughter helped with editing and my grandson helped me get it set up on my site. Without the support from my family and friends, this blog might not be possible. I'm so grateful for these people! Now, I do ask for your patience and a bit of grace as I begin introducing these videos. There is still some fine tuning for us to do, but this is our first "production" and although it might not be ready for "prime time", I wanted to share it with you all. It's focused on making the Pain de Compagne, one of my favorite bread recipes and one I think is straight forward and makes a great traditional loaf. You can review this a bit in my 3rd blog post: "Let's Start Baking!" or pull it up from my recipe tab.

That's it for now. I appreciate you taking the time to read this post and check out my new recipes and videos. Until next time Happy Baking!

Bridget
