Ready to Bake!

I love the combination of cranberries and orange, whether in muffins, bread, or even a cranberry pudding cake. I hadn't tried a sourdough quick bread version before, so I decided to experiment. It turned out wonderfully! You can find this new recipe under the recipes section. It's called Sourdough Cranberry Orange Quick Bread. I found this recipe on the site simplicityandstarter.com. As I've mentioned before, I enjoy making mini loaves. This recipe was perfect for those smaller loaves, and I'm sure it would work well for muffins too. The recipe includes a glaze made from powdered sugar, orange juice, and orange zest. I opted not to use it; instead, I prefer to sprinkle coarse sugar before baking, similar to what I do with my pumpkin loaves. The cranberries add just the right amount of tartness, and the bread with the sugar sprinkle is sweet enough for me.

Scoop the batter into you greased pans and then sprinkle with the sugar.

Freshly baked cranberry bread loaves cooling in the pans, but only for about five minutes. Then remove from the pans to cool directly on the rack.

Yummy loaves cooling. Be sure to cool completely before slicing so your slices don't crumble. Note: It's handy to feed your sourdough after using discard in your recipe.😉

There's another cranberry recipe I absolutely adore, known as Cranberry-Maple Pudding Cake. I found this recipe on epicurious.com https://www.epicurious.com/recipes/food/views/cranberry-maple-pudding-cake-241118

several years back. While it's not a sourdough recipe, I couldn't talk about cranberry orange recipes without mentioning it. It's perfect as a dessert, but I also love having it for holiday brunches. I usually make it on Thanksgiving or Christmas morning. It's simple to put together, and I enjoy serving it warm. Nonetheless, it's also tasty cold as leftovers. You can also find this in my recipe section.

This dish is yummy plain or topped with whipped cream.

I hope you have fun trying out these recipes and would love to know which ones you like best. Wishing you all a Happy Thanksgiving! I'll chat with you next month about baking cookies that could be useful for your December gatherings with friends and family.

Take care. Bridget
